About Camp Jubilee

Our History

Camp Jubilee first opened its doors in 1991 with just 34 campers and 17 volunteers, thanks to a generous grant from the Junior League of Dallas. What began as a small dream has grown into a life-changing tradition. By 2013, Camp Jubilee welcomed 140 campers and 74 dedicated volunteers serving as counselors, program staff, and medical team members.

Today, with the continued support of Camp John Marc, Children’s Medical Center, Cook Children’s Medical Center, as well as generous grants, corporate partners, and individual donors, Camp Jubilee remains a place of joy, healing, and community.

Each summer, campers gather at Camp John Marc in Meridian, Texas, a camp built specifically for children with chronic illnesses. Here, children living with Sickle Cell Disease experience a week of adventure, fun, and friendship at no cost to their families.

At Camp Jubilee, kids gain more than memories. They discover confidence, build lifelong friendships, and feel safe in a community where everyone understands their journey. Surrounded by peers, they learn from each other what it means not just to live with sickle cell disease but to thrive.

Our Mission

Our mission is to provide a free, week-long summer camp experience for children living with Sickle Cell Disease who are treated at Children’s Health Dallas/Plano and Cook Children’s Fort Worth. At Camp Jubilee, every child has the chance to enjoy adventure, build lasting friendships, establish leadership skills, and grow in confidence at no cost to their families.

The Benefits

Camp Jubilee is more than a camp; it’s a life-changing experience.

  • Confidence & Self-Esteem: Campers discover new strengths and build a sense of accomplishment.
  • Friendship & Community: Campers connect with other campers who truly understand life with Sickle Cell Disease.
  • Emotional Relief for Families: Parents and caregivers gain peace of mind knowing their child is safe, supported, and having fun.
  • Hope & Healing: Every camper is reminded that they are more than their diagnosis, they are capable, resilient, and deeply valued.

Our Programs

We offer a variety of experiences to meet the needs and interests of every camper:

  • Overnight Summer Camp – A week filled with swimming, campfires, fishing, horseback riding, and ziplining.
  • Adventure Activities – Outdoor challenges that encourage teamwork, courage, and growth.
  • Leadership Programs – Opportunities for older campers to develop responsibility, mentoring skills, and confidence.
  • Wellness & Recreation – Activities that promote healthy living while accommodating the needs of children with Sickle Cell Disease.

Did You Know?

Children with Sickle Cell Disease often spend weeks each year in the hospital managing pain crises and complications; yet at Camp Jubilee, they get to spend one unforgettable week being just kids.
